Goodness me, I’m writing again

I did an idle Google search for “Sailor Moon 4200” the other day and it led me to a podcast about SM4200 (incredibly kind, by the way): https://retrofanficretrospective.podbean.com/e/episode-96-sailor-moon-sailor-moon-4200/

After listening for a bit, I had to look up a point of what they were saying. And then, quite suddenly, the writing bug bit me again.

Since then, I’ve been writing every evening, here in my hotel room (ironically, I’m in Japan right now, and for the next week or so). Pages and pages of new material. More importantly, I’m enjoying writing again.

So…yeah, Chapter 16 is well under way.

I’ve also been re-reading a lot of the earlier chapters, both to refresh myself and to get the flavour of the story again, and I’m finding myself tempted to go back and do another general revision to tighten up the writing. (Honestly, the opening of chapter 9 is painful; it seems that every time someone says anything they beginning it with “So”.) But, tempting though that is, I think I’ll stick with writing new stuff, which seems a bit more productive.

Wishing you all a happy New Year for 2026!

I am a very old fan of this work. Today I decided to check it, just in case. I am happy to see that you are writing again. I hope we could read the next chapter this year. Enjoy Japan. I went there in 2012. Have you visited the real Hikawa Shrines?

W00t! Glad to hear that you're finally writing again, Angus. Your fic is a classic IMO, and I've often lamented that it updates so rarely. I hope that things go well for you in the future.

I have visited the real Hikawa, yes, years ago. It was a bit of a disappointment compared to the SM version. :)

This justifies our years of podcasting all by itself, as far as I'm concerned! I did let you know that we discussed the rest of the series in a followup episode, right? If not, my apologies! We just switched podcast hosting, so here's the link: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4knVYpIC8x5SPPsv5KjMUV?si=LDtr4dNxRCaM8EUWJcC9BQ

As always, I will keep reading SM4200 any time you write it. I mean, it's the 2026 and I'm still occasionally checking your blog, just in case. You've got at least a few readers for life.

As a matter of fact I realised, sometime after making this post, that I've posted about the Retro Fanfic podcast before, back in September 2020. (Silly me.) But my delight in the review remains!

I don't know if this writing spur will continue—I am, as ever, far too easily distracted—but the fact is, writing Chapter 15 dragged out for a long, long time because, events-wise, not much really happens in the chapter; it's almost all character development. Whereas Chapter 16 begins the big run-up of events leading to the final conflict. So it's a lot more interesting to write!
