Finished, part 2
Finished rewriting the ending. Much longer now—I added a thousand words—and I think, considerably better. I had to up the ante quite a lot, and it's now almost nothing like I originally planned (back when I started writing SM4200), but I think it works.
I'll give the whole chapter one last read-through tomorrow, and then it goes out to the pre-readers.

So, does this mean we get to celebrate now?

And what does one have to do to become a pre-reader?
To be blunt, I have a fair number of names on the list already. Not really looking for more at present unless I get a lot of no-shows (ie, people who don't respond when I send the new chapter out).
The way those people got there was:
-- Convinced me that they knew how to write; or
-- Convinced me that they could give worthwhile, preferably detailed commentary; or
-- Both.
The list is, alas, fairly high turnover, because my chapters come out pretty far apart and inevitably, people drop out of the fanfiction scene, or just don't have the time any more, or change email addresses and don't tell me. My very first pre-reader, Sandy Drobic, vanished somewhere between chapters 9 and 10. (But if you're still reading, Sandy, drop me a line! You'd be welcome back.) In general, if a reader doesn't respond twice, they come off the list.
I am in a state of extreme anticipation! Forget writing midterms!!

That's all right. I am not really sure I have the time to dedicate to such an endevour at the moment (which is ironic considering the gap between chapters). I was just curious as to what your criteria were.
I'll definitely be providing feedback when it comes out and I have a chance to read. And putting together individual comments for the early chapters is on my (sadly massive) list of things to do. I just have to find a moment... (I am doing a phd and don't have many to spare.)
